Moved to New Apartment

Hello I'm Back after a long time! I have been so busy with the moving process ! We moved to a new apartment ! It's in sharjah and its much bigger than the one we were in & i love it! hamduliah :) its 5 mins away from my parents house and my best friends live on the same ROAD! woo hooo :)

My belly is getting bigger and bigger by the second and i find myself sitting and staring at it while baby lulu kicks and turns and i see it changing in shape! sub7anallah. her kicks are harder now and soon i think they will start to HURT!

im in the 29th week. 7th month. so i think i should start the countdown and freaking out! AAAH! I need advice on what are the best stroller/car seat/crib/baby changing table to buy.

All you mothers and people with experience in that department don't hesitate in leaving me a comment to enlighten me to this world of baby stuff i just get so confused when i go into the baby shop!

p.s. i officially walk like a penguin now

Good to 'see' you again, especially with such a bump!

I can't remember ANYTHING about baby accessories, it's probably all changed, but I bet someone else will come along.

Are you practicing your breathing? Kegals? :)

Congratulations on your apartment!

Having just finished with this stage... (the Beans are 4 and 6 now), here are my thoughts on your advice needs :). Stroller, go and test drive them. We had the Peg Perego Pliko with ButterBean and loved it so much we bought the twin version with the TwinBeans. Hardy, durable (we still have the Pliko), long-lasting, easy to manage...

For car seats, buy American, teehee. Not Made in America rather made to American specs. Now, this isn't just the usual bigoted love of my home country's products, promise. Let me explain why I say this.

First, the US has VERY rigid safety standards which all car seats must meet. But, the more important reason is that the design is created more for convenience. With American seats, you connect the infant car seat base into the car. When you need to remove the seat, you simply push a button and it pops out. The base REMAINS in the car. So, when you get back to the car, none of that silly struggling to get the car seat back in the seat belt. You just pop it in and go. This is a lifesaver. If you're skipping the infant seat stage, we love the Britax seats. I have 3 Marathons for the Beans (still in them, raised eyebrows notwithstanding since they go to 60 pounds) . Everyone I've ever known who has had one has loved it...

Crib, no clue. We went really expensive with ButterBean's and really cheap (Wal-Mart cheap) with the TwinBeans. I didn't see a whole lot of functional difference. ButterBean's pricey stuff was nicer and looked better, but that's it.

We skipped the changing table and got a Graco Pack n Play with the changing table attachement. Less furniture and portable. We also happened to have a sink that cold double when the TwinBean's were young. But, we only used that at bed time...

Hope that helps and sorry for the book!

aaaah u reminded me of that walk! My husband loved it :p mabrook the new place, 3atabit khair inshallah:)
as for the stroller, make sure it's light so you could always take it out of the car's trunk and back easily, esp. if you r hanging out alone with yr baby, without yr hubs.
car seats sometimes come with the srollers, sets, and they have a base -I prefer those- but if the stroller didn't have it, you can go for the multi stages, I'm not familiar with brands.
I was adviced not to get a changing table because you just can't change the baby on it EVERY SINGLE time! I got something more practical, the changing pad and it was really good! I changed her everywhere in the house, http://www.lifekind.com/catalog/images/ChangingPad.gif
plus the babies grows so fast that the changing table becomes too small for them and a lil bit dangerous!
hope that was helpful :$

Mabrook on the new apartment! I can't wait when I finally move too :)

My youngest is 2 and oldest is 3, so since I was there in your shoes not so long ago I'll give you some tips on what works and what doesn't. Here we go:

Stroller:

It really depends on your budget. I would definitely recommend investing in a travel system to start with. You can buy a bigger car seat once your precious one grows out of the one that comes in the travel system.

Graco - is a great buy that also doesn't wreck a havoc on your budget. Not all Gracos are equal. I would definitely recommend getting Graco Vie4 or Graco Quattro Tour. The reason these are good is because the wheels won't wobble if you are walking a little faster.

A little pricer option would be Peg-Perego Skate Stroller. Peg-Perego makes some extremely high quality strollers but comes with higher price tag.

What I would not recommend is the jogging stroller (you know, the one that has 3 wheels), unless you plan to go jog outside (considering you live in Sharjah, I doubt that you'd want to do that). The reason I don't recommend jogging stroller is because they are extremely bulky, and don't fold up well, they won't let you swoop around the rows and isles of stores and malls that easily either.

OK, next item on the list: Crib

DaVinci Emily Convertible Baby Crib is of high quality, and they are free of toxic painting. The railing should be no further apart than 2 3/8″ wide, and mattress should fit tightly.

If you buy a crib, invest time in selecting a good mattress. Mattress should be firm.

Now, since you have mentioned that you will be living close to your parents and friends, if I were you I would buy Graco Pack n Play. They come with bassinets and changing table. So, if you were to visit your friends or parents you can fold the pack n play and take it with you. Your baby can nap safely in it. I used to have one in pink, and would put it in the living room if I had visitors or if I was cooking, so baby was always under supervision (we had a 2 story townhouse at the time). I ended up using the pack n play more often than the crib. But thats up to you and your budget.

Invest in stumpy wide Dr. Brown bottles. Even if you plan to breastfeed, keep these around. You will be exhausted feeding your baby around the clock, and on the days when you seriously need some shut-eye pump some milk, pour it in the bottle, and recruit your dh or your family to feed the baby while you get some sleep. If you're sleep deprived you may compromise on your health and you may not be able to breastfeed for long. I didn't have extra help, so I got barely 2.5 months before my well was dry. Please get some rest in between and have someone bottle feed your breastmilk once in a while.

Get a good baby bag. Some of the diaper bags are quite ugly. If such is your case, don't hesitate to buy a nylon tote or a patent leather bag. They are easy to wipe out.

OK, what else...Don't bother with baby wipe warmer, thats pure waste of money. Get some good rash cream, such as Destin.

Oh, and get one of the cute bouncer chair. They are great once baby passes 2 months mark and ready to socialize. I had Fisher-Price , and those were quite useful.

mabrook and i will try to ask about baby stuff for u

Pancake said...

Oh, one more thing, don't buy one of those swanky expandable baby baths, because those are leaky. Stick to a very basic one, such as Fisher Price. Best way to bathe your baby using your baby-tub is by sticking your bath into your kitchen sink, and washing your baby there, because it will save your back and you can lay out all your supplies right in front of you so its better for safety reasons.
