Pollution of D@ Mind

You know i sat there the other day thinking to myself as usual.. i thought about how the world has changed and is changing drastically.. i asked a kid to recite verses of the quran he had memorized , he satrted singing " boooos il wawa" instead!! i was horrified.. its a 4 yr old being subjected to haifa wahbe and im sure worse things! I have seen little girls dancing like those girls in the Music Videos... their innocence has been stolen away from them... what is the main source all this???? TV!!!

tv has become a "norm" a world that is as real to ppl as their worlds are... some may argue that it is harmless and that its just a way to pass time... knowing nowadays ppl have replaced reading books with watching movies.. surveys show that the average person watches around 4 hours and 32 minutes of television DAILY & that number increases on holidays!!

$ince people rarely read nowadays and have replaced books with tv shows or movies.. this also means that TV is their MAIN source of information and what ppl are continously viewing will definitely have an effect on them... for ex u spend most of ur time with your best friend... eventually u start talking and acting alike... even without realizing!! its pretty much the same with tv... ppl start to immitate what they see sometimes they are oblivious of the serious effects Tv can have!

Every generation is worse than the next ( i sound like a granny but its TRUE)... you want to protect yout children from the effect of television u can control the channels they watch..maybe even not have a TV in the house.. BUT what about in the REAL world... in school.. in the street! Is the solution blindfolding them? locking them up in a room away from this polluted world...

Cause from what i see EVERYWHERE you look there is something you shouldnt be looking at lol

Have you not noticed how they is hardly any censorship anymore? And that even in the morning or at noon when kids are mostly watching the tv the not very "sesame street" shows are on!! Yes i am not saying TV is all BAd... Yes there are alot of cool shows and i myself am a movie freak :S but some movies are just FULL of brain washing ideas that corrupt the taste, pollute the heart & brain, debase the mind, & demoralize the conduct of not only children but ADULTS as well.

Recently ive noticed that there is a noticable increase in violence, profanity, disrespect for traditonal values, unethical & morally unacceptable ideas, sexual connotation in movies.. What is considered a "G" RAted movie is FAR from "General"!

Ask yourself if the same kinds of scenes and messages we see now of all too many programs of today were found in the programs of twenty years ago. Not even 10 years ago!!

We are being exposed to growing amounts of inappropriate material if we choose to watch TV without being selective of what we watch with time we also will be brain washed and our minds will be polluted.

What people are repeatedly exposed to in advertisements, entertainment, novels, motion pictures, etc, has a great affect on ones self-image and behavior!

Television is no longer just entertainment it has become a "value-setter" where ppl compare themselves and thier lifestyle to what they see on TV! Movies have glorified violence, infidelity, & deviant behavior and have even made them look glamourous!

Another thing i noticed is that by continously being exposed to such shows & movies that hold soo much violence is being DESENSITIZED! People have gotten used to seeing death and violence that they have less sympathy for suffering and accept the idea of violence very easily. Which explains how the world sits their looking at people die in palestine, iraq,Lebanon & all around the world without taking any actions.. not even a flinch...

We must NOT take this matter lightly & have to at least be AWARE of what is happening around us and what will happen in the future if things keep escalating the way they are.

SAid like a true movie freak :P its been a while since i wrote something serious :)
but kolo wala that "boos il wawa" kid!!

i totally agree with u chocolic thats tru TV has been a major drastic change in the media now the question comes how to decrease or stop it!!

I got rid of my tv three years ago..I may not be up on current tv programs... but i have more peace in my life and I do things my way without influences from outside sources.

The younger generation is not able to decide for themselves what is right and wrong on tv. They simply asume it is the norm... it is far from that. It is an artificial reality. Designed to sell.. sell dvd's..clothes...makeup...toys..on and on and on...

I guess it is our job to teach the younger generations. But tv doesnt help us in that task...

Glad you smart minds are out there giving it some thought. It is an important issue...!!

mortalmuslim i think we should all do what sk did and throw the tv out of the house and force ourselves to read more and well we will watch movies but we have to know what we are watching... yes seems impossible but could be the answer..

sk u rule!! seriously it take a lots of determnation & wll power to do what u do.. i hop eone day ll do the same :D mwa

I’m not included in Haifa Wahbi’s generation, am I?

Well, talking about me and the way I were raised, I’m sure I know what to watch and when to watch it! So it depends on the way those kids were raised, a simple solution like throwing out the TV won’t be that helpful while the kids as you said are exposed to the utter world with all this 5ababees around! Just raising them the right way and giving them the basis at which they determine whether this is good or bad, right or wrong with monitoring of course solve it all out.

They’ll face it everyday so they should know that this is wrong and has nothing to do with our religion or morals!

7elweh o ente serious :P

most of the millenium kids nowadays can remember the songs, the dance steps.. and are more likely to get into fights, commit assaults or engage in other types of violence later in life, all bcoz of the box called TV!!

Eno Ur post didn’t give any role to the viewer! It assumed that he/she must be a brainless idiot ….after all the person has the choice to watch wut suits his/her taste…..yali bedo to watch porn or yali wanna watch al Jazeeraaaaaaaaaa.

Censorship is not the solution ya Dina…ppl must be exposed to everything and then decide!!

Sho sar be the bar of chocooooooooooo…

arab voman wallah i hear ur point of u and im not sayin we should not be exposed at all and live in a bottle somewhere in an island far away from this polluted media.. all im saying that even the most intelligent and the most aware human being is subjected to daily hidden messages in movies and tv.. im not talkin abt watching porn.. im taalking abt watchign a normal movie.. that believe it or not holds a lot of ideas that you might nto approve of 100% but eventually after watching the same material in movies.. ur thinking gradually changes and u start accepting certain things.. u start changing without realizing.... its unnatural if u are not affected by what u see!! And abt making a choice i dont think that is a choice its more like accepting that this is out there and deailing with it somehow...

so u say let children watch whatever shows they like then they chose ?? anyway ya katkoota i know ur point and i agree with u to a point...

the chocolata.... lol... lisa fakra?!!

Arab lady, you remind me of my 5 year old cousin, he thinks that watching al jazeera is the highest level intellectual act a person could be involved in.

Great topic Dina! I tend to give long comments, but I will try to be succinct. Censorship or not even having a TV is not the complete answer. Yes, you can do these things, but there is always going to be exposure to the values you are trying to prevent from seeping in, just by witnessing the people/world around you.

Parents need to be better minders and communicators. They cannot just stick their hands in the sand and think their kids will know the right morals/values. They need to be actively involved and see changes that are taking place with their kids. And then talk, talk and talk some more with them. And listen, listen, and listen some more!

That was too long. I am trying to make my comments shorter, but :(

I've been here before, but usually am more of an observer. Anyhow, thanks for dropping by my blog! Hope to see more of you, and I will definitely look forward to reading more of your blog inshallah! :)

i agree that kids arent reading as much, they lack basic islamic foundations, and they are mimicing the retards on tv.

BUT THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT PARENTS ARENT RAISING THEIR KIDS. their tarbaya is so wrong. PARENTS NEED TO STEP UP AND STFU and stop complaining (haha i dont mean you).

This has been an issue being discussed around dinner tables, majlis, and at parties.

Parents need to do something, make the change. Why do you need the TV companies to censor? The parents should be doing that, they are the parents who provide parenting. Tv companies or Etisalat for example (for the interent) shouldnt be doing this for you,its your job to protect your kids.

and another confirmation, im not attacking you :)

balfoot... ur 5 yr old cousin watches jazeera? come on arab lady was just statin her point of view... lets discuss rather than argue here :) and btw jazeera is not always saying the full truth.. i suspect even the news has been editted to suit what is "APPRoved" by America & Israel...

but anyway this is a peaceful blog... peace ppl peace! no negative comments pweaaathe

Digital niqabi : i llove long comments :) so ur a silent observer.. i think there are many that i hope would sepak up saomeday.. ur totally right abt all what u said :)

o drama diva i jus realized i didnt reply to your comment yes its soo easy to sing a song and memorize its lyrics but when it comes to memorizing the quran.. brans go blank.. :S

sad but true...

Arabized... yes parents have become more "open minded" to the point of "Carelessness" they think they are doing the right hing by givign thier children way oo much freedom and have misused the concept of " open-mindedness"... forgotten abt our roots... and mainly ab the teaching of islam... we are soo far away from the TRUE islam... i have seen famiilies that raised thier kids the right islamic way and thier kids mashala grew up knowing right from wrong and are less liable to fall into this sort of mess!!

thnk for ur comments :)
